Waste ground: We are communication with the owner of the land at 1 Canon Street (adjacent to Pop In Cafe) about improving the look of the site – we await an update from the owner.
Planters: Volunteers, levy members and business owners continue to be instrumental to the upkeep of our planters and we keep each other informed via a WhatsApp group. In addition, Town Church Primary pupils, as part of their curriculum would like to be involved in the upkeep and seasonal planting, guided by our great volunteers in Commercial Street and Market Street. We have applied to Wilko’s Community Fund for the supply of trowels, gloves, etc for the children.
Welcome signs: We are awaiting RCTCBC to cut foliage back by RCTCBC on the A4059 by Tesco so our ‘Welcome to Aberdare’ signs can clearly be seen

INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION

South Wales Police: The Police have identified those responsible for damaging some of our planters in Feb 2022 and we have invited the vandals to volunteer to look after the plants. We await an update from South Wales Police. In addition, there was a planned police presence in Aberdare during the last bank holiday and we hope to see more of this.
Empty units: We are attending a meeting with WG, RCTCBC and a private developer looking for potential investment in empty units in Aberdare town centre. In addition, the old Poundstretcher is being refurbished for a new tenant.
Press/journalism/advertising: Reach Media Plc (WalesOnline) are looking for the BID to spend money with them for advertising so we’ve asked firstly, how they may be able to fix the damage made by their article a few months ago! We need the positives of Aberdare to be promoted.
CORE business solutions centre: FREE workshops continue to prove beneficial to a wide range of attendees. Please take a look at the list of workshops available and book you or your staff a place.
Levy bills 2022-23: In line with RCTCBC’s process of billing, you will soon receive your levy bill for 2022-23, however this does not need to be paid until November 2022.

ACCESS & PARKING

Pedestrian zones & traffic: We are in communication with Vikki Howells with a view to sending a joint letter to both South Wales Police and RCTCBC on behalf of community members and levy members regarding the parking and traffic in both Commercial Street and Market Street which are pedestrian zones.
